I am currently engaged in two projects that are in somewhat early stages as the back-end code is still being written and tested. The plan is to make both platforms free and open-source, and I will share their respective repositories on GitHub once they have reached a more mature development stage. My hope for both is that they emerge as great platforms providing value to the users and visitors. Here are short descriptions of both, along with their respective goals.
Alexandria Institute
Chances are that you've heard of Khan Academy. Maybe you're even familiar with their mission? Well, my goal is to create a similar platform for people in my home country, Serbia, as well as other Serbo-Croatian-speaking countries. The main difference is that lectures on my platform will follow the national standards and mimic the length and topics covered per lecture in the traditional gymnasium setting. The production quality will be high, and lecture materials will be beautifully typeset in LaTeX. Throughout the years of my education at different institutions across Europe and America, I've experienced it all, and now I am confident that I can apply the best of the two teaching philosophies while combining my passion for technology and education. Once the platform reaches a certain level of traffic and reputation, it will become a spot where the most knowledgable and engaging selected tutors can offer their services through monthly subscriptions or individual sessions. Over the years, the essential priority will be accumulating the massive library of free knowledge covering grades 1 through 12 and preparing students for the next steps at the elite higher education institutions.
Rate My Blank
Inspired by the simplicity and sheer usefulness of RateMyProfessors.com, my friend and I are developing a whole suite of platforms that will become the place to rate and review people and institutions from various aspects of life, such as college/high school coaches and employers. Another thrilling feature is that the users will have an option to create their own profiles and allow friends to anonymously rate them on the criteria they specify. Then, it would be on them to share their results and respond or keep them private. These tools are being written in Java using the Spring Framework. The project has advanced a lot in the last two months, and the GitHub repository will soon be made public.
